Origin: Native to SE Asia and south India.

Biophysical Requirements: Often grown in warm wet areas and near streams but not exclusively.

Food Uses: Also called old cocoyam, taro produces starchy corms (fleshy basal stem). It is a popular food crop in tropical countries. The young leaves are also eaten.
