Location: Small grains
Origin: Central Asia. A C4 grass, not closely related to foxtail millet or pearl millet. Accounts for 15% of the world’s millet grain production.
Biophysical Requirements: Matures very early ‐ 60 to 65 days after seeding. Can produce a crop with very little water.
Food Uses: Used as food in Asia and for livestock grain and birdseed in the U.S. Not grown in Africa.
