Origin: Central and South American

Biophysical Requirements: Adapted to areas with mean temperatures of 18 to 24C (65‐75F) during the growing season. Beans generally require a growing period of 120‐130 frost‐free days. The lima bean is grown as an annual in temperate regions, but it is perennial in tropical areas.

Food Uses: A leguminous plant producing edible seeds harvested either dry or when the pods are still green for fresh use.
