Origin:  India.

Biophysical Requirements: Needs moisture (likes standing water) and warmth.

Uses: The second most prevalent vegetable fiber after cotton. Used mainly to make coarse cloth (Hessian, burlap) from which upholstery and sacks (gunny sacks) are made.
