Origin: Probably domesticated in South Asia

Biophysical Requirements: Cultivated on marginal lands where rice and other crops will not grow well.

Food Uses: Also known as barnyard millet (closely related to the weed barnyard grass), it is a C4 species in the Panicum taxonomic branch which is grown as a forage grass on small acreages in the NE USA and for feed or edible seeds in south Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan).
