Location: Pulse crops

Origin: Wild peas can be found in the Near East and Mediterranean basin. The biggest producers today are Russia and N China.

Biophysical Requirements: A cool‐season legume of the same species as garden peas, also called Canadian field pea (dry pea), and Austrian winter peas. The crop requires a cool growing season. High temperatures are more injurious than light frosts.

Food Uses: Dry seed is boiled for soup, Indian dal, and other cooked dishes.
