Description: The most important forage legume crop in New York and the United States. Originated in Asia and Europe but is now grown throughout the world. High yielding perennial legume with high‐protein, palatable forage, winter hardy. May persist for 15 to 20 years. Adapted to deep, well‐drained soils. Requires plenty of calcium (high soil pH) and is very drought-resistant when established.
