Job Opening: “Ag climate resiliency position”, due March 26, 2023

Do you have a strong agricultural background? Are you interested in climate adaptation and mitigation?  If so, we are recruiting for a talented individual to work in this area as part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Harvest New York Team.

What You Will Do

 

The Climate Resiliency program provides research and educational support to New York agriculture to guide adaption and mitigation in response to Climate Change. You will help farmers maximize carbon sequestration potential through land management strategies, reduce and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and provide guidance for farmers to contribute to New York State climate change goals. Specific duties include:

  • Providing leadership for planning and developing educational programs emphasizing the adaptation and mitigation of climate change on New York State agriculture.
  • Utilizing industry-based research to develop educational materials and programs.
  • Evaluating educational programs that address grower-identified needs and opportunities; making recommendations to enhance program efforts.
  • Assisting in preparing grants to support Program Generated Funds requirements for the program.
  • Helping producers comprehend and navigate the legal/regulatory process related to carbon sequestration and “carbon credits”.
  • Preparing quarterly reports and yearly impact statements on program progress and accomplishments.
  • Participating in collaborative research projects with University and extension faculty and staff as well as other agencies and organizations.

We are looking for a talented individual who builds and maintains effective relationships with multiple stakeholders. We need someone who appreciates agriculture and wants to improve the climate resiliency of farm operations within New York State. You will work across the Hudson Valley and contribute to multiple teams while developing educational programs.

This position is full-time; it will be located in the Hudson Valley and will work across New York State. Moderate travel (about 30%) will be required throughout New York State.
