Integrated Assessment Models and the Social Costs of Water Pollution

10:30-12:30 p.m.	Welcome Remarks and Plenary Session Dr. Kelly Maguire, Economic Research Service, United States Department of Agriculture Water-related Activities at USDA/ERS Supporting Farmers and Rural America Dr. Kelly Maguire is the Assistant Administrator at USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS). Previously she was the Branch Chief in ERS’s Conservation and Environment Branch. She also spent almost 20 years as an Economist in EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics. At ERS she provides oversight and coordination across the ERS research programs and peer review of ERS research reports. Her areas of expertise include valuing ecosystem services, and distributional effects of environmental and agricultural policy. Dr. Joel Corona, Office of Water, United States Environmental Protection Agency Water Economics at EPA Dr. Joel Corona has been an economist in EPA’s Office of Water for over 17 years, where he recently concluded a term as the temporary director of EPA’s newly formed Water Economics Center. Joel currently leads the development of the Hydrologic and Water Quality System (HAWQS) watershed model, the Benefits Spatial Platform for Aggregating Socioeconomics and H20 Quality (BenSPLASH) water quality valuation model, and represents EPA’s Office of Water on economics-related issues. In addition to his work in economics, Joel helped establish EPA’s WaterSense labeling program, managed EPA’s US-Mexico Border Water Infrastructure Program, and assisted in integrating climate change into EPA water programs. Dr. Esha Zaveri, Water Global Practice, The World Bank Dr. Esha Zaveri is an Economist with the Water Global Practice of the World Bank where she works with the Water, Poverty and Economics Global Solutions Group. Her professional work spans issues related to water resource management, climate impacts, and environmental health. She has authored flagship reports of the World Bank on water scarcity (Uncharted Waters, 2017) and water pollution (Quality Unknown, 2019). Prior to joining the World Bank in 2018, Esha was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University where she is currently an affiliated scholar.
