Project Overview

SoilNOW provides outreach in three main areas:

  1. Information & Extension – Practical answers to soil and soil agronomic questions and trouble-shooting common challenges;
  2. Investigation & Research – Information about our research and soil testing activities and those of our partners, and ways to get involved;
  3. Innovation & Teaching – Learning about soils and their impact on the world around us.

Through SoilNOW we bring together content from a variety of trusted sources, and also develop new resources — ranging from literature review, simple demonstrations, videos, interactive web content, and traditional extension bulletins. Our team is also available to answer questions directly.

Our relationships with Extension colleagues, gardeners, and anyone who is interested in soils are the core of SoilNOW. These partnerships help us to understand and prioritize information needs. We then investigate if accurate and complete resources are available, and shape our own research to answer the questions of most interest to our community. Our goal is to strive for innovation in learning and effective information sharing, so that our partners have the tools and knowledge they need to build healthy, productive, sustainable soils.

We will continue to reassess content to make sure our SoilNOW resources are accurate and useful, and to understand new programming needs and audiences. Please contact us at soil3@cornell.edu with questions, feedback, or ideas!

This project is supported by Federal Capacity Funds. These funds come to Cornell University from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture in order to support our Extension mission as New York State’s land-grant institution.
