2019 Cornell Organic Symposium | April 24, 2019 | G10 Biotechnology Building

 

The Organic Production and Marketing Program Work Team is sponsoring the second annual Cornell Organic Symposium, April 24th from 1:00 – 5:00 PM in G10 Biotech on the Cornell Ithaca campus. This year the Symposium will have a weed management theme and feature weed ecologist Chuck Mohler as keynote speaker.  Similar to last year, the Symposium will include a poster session (with snacks!).

1:00 – Welcome and Announcements – Chris Smart, Director of the School of Integrative Plant Sciences and Matt Ryan, Soil and Crop Sciences Section, SIPS

 

1:15 – Keynote Presentation – Developing an ecological approach to weed management: my 36 years in the weeds. Chuck Mohler, Soil and Crop Sciences Section, SIPS (retired)

 

2:00 – Contrasting weed management philosophies of four successful organic vegetable growers. Bryan Brown, New York State Integrated Pest Management Program

 

2:30 – Best practices for on-farm research – Panel discussion facilitated by Laurie Drinkwater, Horticulture Section, SIPS

 

3:15 – Engaging farmers in critical thinking to solve problems or evaluate opportunities on the farm. Group discussion facilitated by Crystal Stewart, Eastern NY Regional Horticulture Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension

 

3:45 – Lightning poster introductions – facilitated by Chris Smart

 

4:00 – Poster session and networking, with snacks!

 

5:00 – Adjourn
