11/19 | Cover crops for enhancing soil health in vegetable production

11/19/2018
12:20 pm - 1:20 pm

Thomas Björkman Cornell UniversityJoin us on the Cornell University campus for a seminar on “Cover crops for enhancing soil health in vegetable production,” by Thomas Björkman. The seminar will be held in room 404 of the Plant Science Building at Cornell. Can’t make it? You can also view it online.

A major area of Björkman’s applied research is in the mechanism whereby cover crops can overcome limitations in soil quality and contribute to weed management in vegetable production systems. To that end he has developed the Cover Crop Decision Tool for vegetable growers in New York. You can access the tool here: http://covercrop.org/

Bjorkman has a Ph.D. in plant physiology from Cornell University and is currently a professor of horticulture. His research projects on the environmental effects of plant growth development include:

Breeding and raising broccoli in warm, humid conditions
Cover crops for use in vegetable production
The mechanism of heat injury to broccoli flower-bud development
