Appropriately, today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and we are releasing our latest New York Soil Health Researcher Highlights video.

Laurie Drinkwater, professor of horticulture at Cornell University, and her research group, study soil nutrient cycling processes in agroecosystems at scales ranging from the rhizosphere to farm and watershed scales. They conduct on-farm research and work closely with farmers.

In 2018 Dr. Drinkwater was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Organic Agriculture by the Agronomy Society of America.

“We talk about organic matter as if it’s one thing, but it’s really a complex heterogeneous mixture, and the only thing they all have in common is they start out as something living,” said Drinkwater.
