This week was pretty great! We entered our second session working on our own identities. It was really important for us to review our collective agreements since this cohort is comprised of teens from the ages of 14 – 18. With a wide age range, it was important to Katherine and I to have a safe space to discuss identities since they are very well developing their own in real time. After explaining to them some current issues including the limited representation of POC and LGBTQ+ members in the House of Representatives and the Senate. By talking about these issues, it allows some students to think about their own relationship to the media, movies, TV shows, and other outlets and whether they feel represented. We moved on to another creative interactive activity that involved the teens to engage their own identities by completing an identity wheel. After they completed this activity, we sent them off into breakout rooms to understand what others thought of their own identity. We saw that they had numerous engaging conversations and asked theirs about their own.
