The Northeastern Weed Science Society annual meeting was held January 6-9 in Annapolis, MD. Cornell and SIPS were well represented by graduate student attendees, three of whom won awards for the writing contest. Henrique Scatena (Soil & Crop Sciences, Kumar and Sosnoskie labs) was awarded first place in the Masters of Science Competition. Preetaman Bajwa (Soil & Crop Sciences, Kumar lab) and Aleah Butler-Jones (Horticulture, Sosnoskie lab) placed second and first, respectively, in the PhD Competition.
Additionally, Kylie Bill, a 2024 Cornell AgriTech Summer Scholar who worked in the Sosnoskie Lab received an honorable mention for her presentation: LASER WEEDING CAN REDUCE WEED COVER AND DENSITY AND IMPROVE CROP GROWTH AND YIELDS. Kylie, an undergraduate at American University, placed fifth overall in a field of more than 20 MSc and PhD students. Congratulations to all the awardees!
