Louis Longchamps, research scientist in precision agriculture at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will officially join the SIPS Section of Soil & Crop Sciences on August 1, 2020 in the position of Assistant Professor with a 50% research and 50% extension appointment.
Longchamps earned his PhD at Laval University where his thesis research focused on “Spatial structure of weed populations in corn fields and measure of the potential for site-specific weed management”, followed by postdoctoral work in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Colorado State University.
Longchamps’ research areas in his current position at Agri-Food Canada in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Québec, have included development of a yield sensor for baby greens, optimization of nitrogen management using remote sensing, and reduction in nitrous oxide emissions using variable rate nitrogen management in switchgrass. He presented research and extension seminars during his June 2019 interview, describing his experience with on-farm experimentation and observational research with farmers.
