Two faculty in the SIPS Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section have received accolades from Plant Pathology Departments at peer institutions. Adam Bogdanove has been named as the 2017 recipient of the E.C. Stakman Award, named after Professor E.C. Stakman, one of the leading plant pathologists of the 20th Century. The E.C. Stakman Award is the highest honor conferred by the University of Minnesota Department of Plant Pathology, recognizing outstanding achievements in plant pathology in the areas of research, teaching, outreach, international development, or any combination of these areas. An elite group of scientists has been recognized by this honor, first conferred in 1956. The E.C. Stakman Award includes a medallion and a monetary honorarium and a visit to the University of Minnesota campus to present a research seminar and meet with students, faculty and staff. Bogdanove will present his seminar and receive the award on April 30, 2018 in St Paul. Alan Collmer, a professor in the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section and inaugural SIPS Director is a past recipient of the E. C. Stakman Award.
Gary Bergstrom, chair of the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section has been chosen to present the 2018 E.S. Luttrell Lecture at the University of Georgia. The annual E.S. Luttrell Lecture is the University of Georgia Department of Plant Pathology‘s signature event each year, and many distinguished speakers have come to Athens to give research presentations since the lecture’s inauguration in 1990. The lecture series is named after E.S. Luttrell, a renowned mycologist, research mentor, and administrator at the University of Georgia. Bergstrom will visit the Athens campus to meet with students, faculty and staff, and he will present the research lecture on May 8, 2018 .
