Plant Breeding and Genetics Professor Emeritus Steven D. Tanksley received the Japan Prize for Biological Production and Biological Environment on Wednesday from the emperor and empress of Japan. The award recognizes his development of molecular genetic analysis and contribution to the stable production of food crops. The prize includes a commemorative gold medal and a cash award of 50 million yen (approximately $420,000). A SIPS -sponsored reception in Tanksley’s honor was held in January following announcement of the award.
