Cornell Assistantship for Horticulture in Africa (CAHA) now accepting North American applicants

Deadline: December 1, 2022 for Fall 2023 admission.

From Marvin Pritts (mpp3@cornell.edu):

We are seeking a student with a Master’s degree from North America to come to Cornell University and conduct Ph.D. thesis research on a horticultural-related issue relevant to sub-Saharan Africa. The work will be carried out partially at a partner institution in sub-Sharan Africa.

Projects related to plant breeding, cultivar selection, stress tolerance, pest management, soil health, post-harvest handling, economic development, value-added, and marketing are examples of the types of work that could be done. Preference will be given to applicants with an African American background. Upon completion of the program, the student will have a Ph.D. and significant international experience.

Funding includes tuition, fees, stipend, travel expenses for student and advisor, and all course work at Cornell University. Limited financial support may be available to help with dissertation research expenses primarily in Africa under the joint supervision of a Cornell-based advisor and an Africa-based advisor. The assistantship will require 15 to 20 hours per week of teaching and/or research responsibilities.
