SIPS is excited to welcome Lori Huberman, Assistant Professor in the Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section. Lori was the successful candidate for the fungal biology faculty search conducted in early 2020, delivering a research seminar on the topic of “Filamentous fungi at the buffet: The regulatory and transcriptional landscape of nutrient sensing”.
Lori comes to SIPS from the University of California at Berkeley where she was a post-doctoral researcher and assistant project scientist in the program of Louise Glass. Her research program focuses on understanding how filamentous fungi sense and utilize the nutrients in plants and soil in addition to development of genomics tools to facilitate rapid identification of the function of fungal genes. Prior to her appointments at UC-Berkeley, Lori earned a PhD in Biology from Harvard in the lab of Andrew Murray. She has a strong track record of publication and grantsmanship including a BASF California Research Alliance Grant (2019-2021) and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (2007 – 2010)
Lori officially started on January 1, 2021 with an appointment that is 60% research and 40% teaching. Her office is located in Plant Science 303B and her lab in 303F. Outside of her work, she enjoys playing the flute, orienteering, running, hiking, and cross-country skiing.
