Diversity Preview Weekend 2020

March 12-15 graduate students in SIPS, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Entomology are hosting 40 participants from underrepresented backgrounds for a weekend where they will learn about Cornell’s graduate programs, meet with students and faculty, and receive advice on how to best represent themselves in graduate school application processes. The purpose of this program is to increase the number of applications, acceptances, and students ultimately enrolling in our programs, with the end goal of increasing the diversity and inclusivity of our graduate student community.

The student organizing committee has finalized the schedule for the weekend and is reaching out to ask for faculty involvement specifically at four times:

Friday, March 13th

  • 12:00 – 1:00 pm: Lunch with Faculty and Graduate Students
  • 1:00 – 3:00 pm: Meetings with Faculty (three 30 minute meetings per participant)
  • 6:30-7:30 pm: Dinner with Faculty and Graduate Students

Saturday, March 14th

  • 12:00 – 1:00 pm: Lunch with Faculty and Graduate Students

We would love to have as many faculty as possible involved in these events. Faculty can email rr732@cornell.edu (Radhika Ravikumar) to let student organizers know if they’re available for meetings on Friday. Students will be matched with faculty for interviews based on their research interests. Interview schedules will be confirmed with each faculty member individually.grid showing DPW schedule
