SIPS congratulates our newest Associate Professor, Sarah Pethybridge! A pathologist in the SIPS Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section (PPPMB), Pethybridge was hired in 2014 to conduct vegetable research and extension at Cornell AgriTech.
The focus of her program is to provide reliable and robust information for management of vegetable diseases to growers and industry in New York. Specific areas of interest concern identification of factors affecting epidemics and crop loss, such as depicting epidemics in space and time, characterizing spread from inoculum sources, and prediction of risk. Primary commodities are processing vegetables such as table beets, a variety of beans, and potatoes. Pethybridge was a recipient of the CALS Early Achievement Award in 2018.
Pethybridge is a native of Australia and prior to her arrival at Cornell served as a Science Group Leader with the New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research, Agricultural Research and Extension Manager for Botanical Resources Australia, and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania. In addition to her role as a Cornell faculty member, she additionally serves as the PPPMB Program Leader for Cornell AgriTech.
