Undergraduate participants in the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station/AgriTech Summer Research Scholars Program visited Ithaca on July 10 to learn about graduate school and career paths related to their interests. The itinerary included talks by the Directors of Graduate Study representing the five SIPS Sections and the Department of Entomology. The visitors additionally toured Mann Library, shopped at the bookstore and enjoyed Cornell ice cream in Minns Garden.
The Summer Research Scholars spend nine weeks working in a faculty program at Cornell AgriTech, gaining research experience and learning about the diverse agriculture and food systems in New York. Areas of research include Horticulture/Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Entomology. For many, the summer research experience inspires pursuit of graduate study in these fields; indeed, several of our current SIPS graduate students are alumni of the program and continue their involvement as intern mentors.
