The STAR Committee at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES) in Geneva collects and donates backpacks every summer to give to students at local elementary schools. This year, a total of 73 backpacks have been collected for donation to the West Street and North Street Schools. Jessica Townley at NYSAES reports that school administrators are thrilled to have so many coming their way!
The backpacks are filled with school supplies which have been donated directly or purchased with cash contributions. The STAR committee is a liaison of the Cornell University Elves Summer Backpack Program which started in 2007. NYSAES has participated in the program every year since 2013.
