Members and friends of the Section of Plant Biology gathered at the Cornell Botanic Gardens Nevin Welcome Center on June 14 to honor Bill Crepet for his 27 years of leadership.  Bill was hired in 1990 as chair of the L.H. Bailey Hortorium, becoming Chair of the Department of Plant Biology in 1999 when the Department was formed from the former Section of Plant Biology in the Division of Biological Sciences and the L. H. Bailey Hortorium.

Karl Niklas, Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor of Plant Biology, former SIPS Director Alan Collmer, SIPS Interim Director Chris Smart, and Senior Associate Dean Beth Ahner lauded Bill for his dedication to fostering excellence in Plant Biology and SIPS. Klaas van Wijk will start as Associate Chair of the Section of Plant Biology on July 1 and transition to Chair on January 1, 2018.
