Nature Plants editor speaks to SIPS postdocs about a career in publishing

– Magdalen Lindeberg

Lei Lei

Lei Lei, Associate Editor with Nature Plants, spoke to the SIPS Postdoctoral Association on May 26th about her career path from research to publishing and the rewards of her current position.  Lei obtained her PhD in Plant Biology from Pennsylvania State University in 2015, with both graduate and postdoctoral research focused on regulatory mechanisms of cellulose biosynthesis.   Following an initial position as an editor with Molecular Plant in Shanghai, Lei moved to Nature Plants where she works in the New York Office.

Among the many enjoyable aspects of her position are the opportunity to work collaboratively with other plant specialists at Springer Nature and the support she receives to attend conferences and visit labs to stay current with developing areas in plant science.  Lei emphasized the fun she experiences in expanding her knowledge of plant-related research.  In response to audience questions she described the publishing process at Nature, her daily work flow and how work-life balance in publishing compares to a career in research.

Lei Lei was invited by Josh Strable, postdoctoral associate in the Scanlon lab.
