December Update from SIPS Interim Director Chris Smart

[emailed to SIPS personnel on December 2, 2016]

Hello SIPS Community

I’d like to thank everyone for actively engaging in our SIPS Director search process. So many of you sent questions for the Town Hall meetings, attended seminars and other events, and provided feedback.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Greg Martin and all members of the search committee for their hard work. The committee will be sending their final comments to the Dean’s office next week.

SIPS-wide faculty meeting:

FACULTY, please join me at our SIPS-wide faculty meeting at 3:30 on December 6.  The meeting will be in 404 Plant Science, with Polycom to A134 Barton Lab in Geneva. For the first 30 minutes Provost Kotlikoff will join us, and we will have a faculty meeting after he leaves.  An agenda will be sent out Monday.

Faculty Searches:

Our four faculty searches are moving along nicely, and interviews will be starting in January! I have included an update on each below;

  • Assistant/Associate Professor of Specialty Crop Systems (Horticulture Section). We will be interviewing four candidates starting in early January.
  • Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant Metabolic Biochemistry (Plant Biology Section). We will be interviewing three candidates in mid-late January.
  • Assistant/Associate Professor of Quantitative Genetics (Plant Breeding and Genetics Section). The committee is working on a short list of candidates, and we hope to begin interviews in January
  • Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant Biodiversity/Phylodiversity. The committee has begun review of applicants and is enthusiastic about the pool.  They plan to review candidates in December and identify candidates in early 2017.

Holiday Party:

Don’t forget about our holiday party on Wednesday December 14 at 3:00 PM at the Statler Hotel, Ballroom!

Feel free to contact me with questions, concerns, or good news,

Chris
