Ithaca SIPS sections and Geneva station donate 100 backpacks to area schools

BackPacksAugust 18, 2016
The Cornell Elves Back To School Backpack Program helps area kids start the school year with new backpacks filled with school supplies.

The NY Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva donated 68 backpacks to the West Street and North Street schools in Geneva. 32 backpacks were collected
from the five SIPS sections in Ithaca and designated for area schools most in need.

The Cornell Elves Backpack Program has grown significantly over the years.  In their first year, 2007, Cornell Elves represented 12 schools and gave out 284 backpacks. In 2015, 953 backpacks were distributed among 23 schools.  Each newbackpack contains 2 spiral notebooks, a package of pencils, a pencil sharpener, washable markers, crayons, pens, erasers, scissors and ruler, a box of tissues, construction paper, a composition book, and glue sticks.

Thank you to all who made this generous donation possible!
