At the School of Integrative Plant Science picnic on June 22, Alan Collmer was thanked for his two years of service as the inaugural Director of the School.  Senior Associate Dean, Beth Ahner, and Bill Crepet, Chair of the SIPS Section of Plant Biology offered their appreciation of all that Alan has accomplished in facilitating creation of an enduring structure for the School and for his tireless efforts to accommodate diverse visions and interests.

Alan was presented with a check for $650 representing contributions from SIPS faculty and staff in the hopes that he will now have time to research and purchase a new bicycle.  The check was accompanied by several small bicycle related gifts.

After thanking various members of the SIPS community and the staff responsible for organization of the picnic, Alan passed a symbolic baton of leadership to Chris Smart who assumes the position of Interim Director on July 1.  Greg Martin has been chosen by Dean Kathryn Boor to lead a national search for a new SIPS Director.
