Day 33: Nov. 28, 2024, Thanksgiving down to Cumberland Island

We left the marina with a good breeze but no current–very easy to get off the dock. The wind was predicted to be somewhere in the range of 10-20 kt from the south. It turned out to be sort of 8-12 kts and very manageable, but the current slammed us most of the way. As usual, when we got in and anchored, the wind picked up significantly (consistent 15-20 kts). Our plan was to dingy over to the island and walk along the national seashore. We thought better of it when we saw that there were about 15 boats anchored but no dinghies at the dinghy dock. After we got settled, it became clear that we were going to hang on the boat due to the choppy waters. We may get some thunderstorms later, so that is probably a good plan. Hoping for a two day hop to St. Augustine starting early tomorrow.

Lighthouse at the top of Cumberland Island. We saw a few wild horses along the shore, but didn’t get a picture of them.
