Ring the Bells: 5 Uncommon and Exotic Honeymoon Destination for Newly Weds

Wedding season has finally arrived and while planning the ceremony and reception can be stressful, organizing a destination honeymoon does not have to be. There are endless corners of the world to explore whether it be a romantic escapade to one of the world’s illuminating cities of Paris or to relax and unwind on the sandy beaches of Bali. While these are common honeymoon locations, there are other unique and uncommon places to add on the honeymoon destination’s list for adventurous couple who might want to try skiing in the mountains or going on an expedition.

Wildlife in Africa

Africa is one destination that has the whole package –picturesque landscapes, vibrant culture, and the chance to have the ultimate wilderness experience. Create unforgettable memories by going on a safari and watching a herd of elephants eat from the Baobab Trees in Ruaha or watch thousands of wildebeest run through the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

There are romantic safari activities that can make the trip just as memorable including riding a hot air balloon during sunset or cruising at night across the vast plains. With so many safari parks to explore, planning a trip to Africa is a great opportunity to immerse with nature before returning back to the busyness of life waiting back home.

Island getaway to Palawan, Philippines

There are many things to do in the Philippines including visiting the giant SM Mall of Asia to do some cheap affordable shopping or indulging in a day of pampering – all activities available in the busy city of Manila. While the city offers a great nightlife and selection of local foods, why not set off to the remote and beautiful island of Palawan. Palawan is one of the most underrated travel destinations in the world and is a hidden gem perfect for the ultimate honeymoon getaway.

Palawan isn’t only known for their luscious and mountainous jungles and beautiful ocean but is also the home to a rare breed of purple crabs. The discovery of this breed of crabs was made recently in 2012.  If traveling to the western coast of Palawan, the Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park is now a part of UNESCO World Heritage Site and is something worth adding on the places-to-see list.

City exploring in Scotland

If island hopping isn’t in the cards for a honeymoon getaway, how about walking through the cobblestone streets of Edinburgh towards the iconic Edinburgh Castle and then spend the rest of the day exploring the Royal Mile. The Royal Mile is perfect for history lovers as it has many landmarks to visit including the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament.

With endless dining options, enjoy a romantic dinner for two and wine tasting or simply exploring the countryside dotted with historical castles.

Explore island life on Guam

Not many people have heard of the small island located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and probably have not considered it to be a perfect honeymoon destination. Guam is a U.S. territory with a population of approximately 165,000 people and also an island with much history.

Turn the honeymoon into an educational and adventure-filled tour by trying new local foods made by the Chamorro people, the natives of the island, and driving down the southern tip to hike to some beautiful waterfalls. Guam has a mix of everything including warm beaches and a relaxing but entertaining nightlight. Afterward a long day of hiking or diving, escape to the Beach Bar and Grill to end the adventure filled day with the gorgeous view of the sunset to spark some romance.

Watch the Northern Lights in Canada

If the cold isn’t bothersome, another memorable way to spend your honeymoon would be watching the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights is quite the sight to see and one of the most romantic ways to spend the honeymoon. While it may be hard to see them from places from cities themselves, taking a trip to the Mucho Lake Provincial Park, British Colombia or cruising along Dempster Highway in Yukon are some ways to catch the beautiful array of lights.

While the best places to see the Northern Lights are on the western side of Canada, why not take the opportunity to explore other iconic cities including Montreal, Quebec City, and Toronto located on the eastern side of the country. There are many must-see attractions in this part of Canada including visiting the mountainous plateaus of Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier and visiting Old Quebec, another World Heritage treasure by UNESCO.

Choosing a honeymoon destination does not have to be stressful, but a fun and relaxing way to unwind after months of stressful wedding planning. Looking into unique activities such as going on safaris, exploring hidden islands, or visiting historical landmarks are all options to create the ideal honeymoon one will never forget.
