Changes to See in Cybersecurity in the Near Future

As the world becomes more connected, how we choose to share information with other people is changing. Privacy is an important issue that many internet users must contend with as the fear of sharing data becomes more prominent. How we choose to share information and how we choose to protect private data is also likely to be of interest within the coming years.

Personal information, such as credit cards, addresses, and social security numbers can be shared rapidly without proper protection, and emails are often the way that security is breached the most. Because a common phishing scam can often look legitimate, it is easy to think that you might be opening an attachment from a friend or family member and instead you are giving away valuable information.

Even not changing passwords on a regular basis can end up causing problems if hackers have chosen to see a user as a victim. As a result, cybercrime can be done from any location in the world, meaning the repercussions for those who have gained information illegally tends not to be reprimanded. Experts in the field are starting to look for new ways to provide security and to fight compromised information.

New technology is changing how cybersecurity is viewed and how companies and individuals can fight the loss of data. Recently, blockchain technology has been used in order to create a strong connection that makes it more difficult for hackers to infiltrate. While the main concern is losing valuable information that can be used against a business or personally, data can also be tampered with and altered, causing problems down the line.

“Blockchain technology can be used to that data can be signed with a digital signature. That digital signature, called hash, can then be stored on either a public or private blockchain ledger, which is highly immutable, making it possible to check if data was modified at any given time,” Sergeui Beloussov, the founder and CEO of Acronis, states for Forbes.

Blockchain and higher-quality passwords have been the main focus of many trying to find a solution to hacking, but experts are also starting to look beyond the traditional solutions that companies have used to keep information safe. How a website looks and its design is also a factor in whether or not a company might be hacked and what steps they can take toward keeping data safe. By analyzing various details of the design, analysts can find weak links that might cause risks to data.

Because cybercrime has become such a common occurrence for many businesses, young people have now been entering the field of cyber forensics. Most companies have valuable information on file that clients share, and any compromised data or breach in security can end up causing them to lose their customers bases. These businesses are hiring teams to help them come up with ways to ease clients’ minds and to keep their data as safe as possible.

“As society becomes more dependent upon digital information, the number of attacks is only going to increase. The best defense we have against these cyber attacks are highly-trained professionals who have learned best practice from industry leaders,” writes Jonathan Rajewski for the Huffington Post.

Businesses are not the only ones who have decided to spend more money and effort into creating safer online conditions. Many governments have been hiring more analysts to make sure that the chances of getting hacked are lessened. As certain government secrets are sent through online means, it can be crucial that any important data remains secure.

While it might seem obvious why businesses and political parties would like data to be safe, cybercrime can also affect the average citizen. Anytime an individual inserts information into an online form, their response is tracked. Most websites are secure and have created safety measures for their data, but even the most well-guarded website can still have flaws in its design.

One area where cyber forensics is starting to take off is in the sporting world. Analysts can use their experience within cyber security to find out information about players, their records, and whether they have been using illegal drugs in order to get ahead. It might seem like a simple way to use a valuable skillset, but it is an example of how far-reaching cyber forensics is and what we might expect from the future.

In the future, we are only likely to see our lives become more connected with the internet. As we share more of ourselves online and we consider giving away valuable data, we are also likely to interact with those who will keep our information safe. Cyber forensics is one of the fast-growing and most-rapidly changing industries, and it is likely to become much more a part of our daily interactions in the future.
