Committees

PATCH members can join any of three subcommittees to get involved in a year-long, health-related community service project.

Science Kits

Science Kits is a subcommittee under PATCH. Science Kits designs and assembles low-cost, reusable, and fun science experiments for students in underprivileged schools. This gives kids the opportunity to get interested in STEM fields, which they may have never been exposed to before. This year 10 experiments and over 400 kits were prepared for students at Groton Elementary School. Designing these experiments and giving kids the opportunity to have fun learning about STEM is an incredibly rewarding experience.
Science Kits meets on Thursdays at 4:45 pm.

Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes is a community outreach effort at a downtown soup kitchen. During weekly visits to St. John’s Episcopal Church, PATCH members take blood pressure readings, give health advice, and connect with the Ithaca community. Members visit in pairs for two hours each week. Volunteers are taught how to use the equipment prior to their first visit, and transportation is simple, so everyone is encouraged to apply!
Loaves and Fishes’ shifts are Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm (5:00-7:00 pm travel time included).

We’re looking forward to offering in-person activities like bingo, technology-help clinics, and letter-writing to accommodate different COVID-restriction modalities.

GIAC

The mission of GIAC is to engage with local kids at GIAC  (a community partner for the youth) and to give back to the wider Ithaca community. We will engage with an after school program that will meet a few times a month at GIAC in downtown Ithaca. This year we plan to create a buddy system with the kids at GIAC, tutoring, team building, playing games with them, etc.
GIAC meets on Fridays at 4:00 pm.
