Public Health Schools and Programs Speak Out

Breastfeeding has been in the U.S. news a lot lately. Breastfeeding is a natural way to nourish babies with complete nutrition. Breast milk helps to build babies’ immunity, helping prevent problems like diarrhea and ear infections. And, nursing can help a mother to delay future pregnancies. These benefits affect all mothers and babies, but can provide added value where clean water and family planning resources are scarce.

Knowing all of the health benefits that can result from breastfeeding, many were shocked to learn that the U.S. played a role in weakening language, released by the World Health Organization, in support of breastfeeding. We are proud to be members of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and to be able to be a part of the collective voice asking for answers.
