Cornell Adult University to offer Food Systems and Human Well-being course
Global changes in climate, economies, transportation, and resource use, as well as environmental agents that propel infectious diseases across borders and species, profoundly challenge public health.
From July 9 to 15, Cornell MPH faculty will be teaching at a Cornell Adult University course: One Health in Action: Global Food Systems and Our Well-being. This course will introduce participants to the One Health and Planetary Health paradigms, and will highlight how public health’s collaborative cross-discipline effort can ensure optimal health for people, animals, and the environment. The Cornell MPH Program puts this at the forefront of teaching, as the health of the world is necessary to support healthy people, and this can only be achieved if we can coordinate best practices in veterinary and human medicine, environmental and agricultural sciences, economics, and human behavior.
Over the week in Ithaca, we explore existing and emerging public health paradigms, and look at the health of humans using these paradigms with food and food systems as the focus. We will look at food systems and health from environmental, agricultural, political, and human behavior perspectives—in the classroom and in the field—and we’ll develop collective ideas and direction for a healthier personal and collective future.
