Cornell women re-establish networking group

The first 2017 meeting of “CU Women Lead: Supporting Women’s Career Growth,” Cornell’s chapter of the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network, will be held Sept. 26, 3:30-4:30 p.m., in 135 Emerson Hall. All Cornell women faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

“A group of women within Cornell have gotten together to develop a community for engaging, empowering and supporting other women in their career journey,” said Patrice Prusko, instructional designer in the Center for Teaching Innovation and Cornell New York State ACE institutional representative, and one of the group’s organizers. “Our mission is to develop and promote the advancement of women in higher education through networking and professional development.”

The group aims to:

  • develop and promote the advancement of women at Cornell;
  • increase the number, visibility and influence of women in leadership roles at Cornell;
  • establish links across colleges, departments, units and job categories; and
  • encourage and support networking, building relationships and professional development for Cornell women.

“We are in the beginning stages of re-establishing a local ACE chapter on campus and will be looking to our colleagues to help determine our direction and next steps,” said Prusko.

The planning group is setting up a series of meetings/meet-and-greets to bring faculty and staff women together and gather information on what would best serve the group’s collective purpose.

In addition to the Sept. 26 session, a second information-gathering meeting will be held Oct. 5, noon-1 p.m. (bring your own lunch) in 401 Physical Sciences Building.

Those interested in CU Women Lead can join its email list, found on the chapter’s website.
