Essential Research Tools Wednesday, 02/26/2014 – 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Join us for a small group, hands-on workshop, and learn to navigate through electronic articles, databases, and citation management tools. We will show you tips for improving research efficiency, how to search for citations, when and how to request items through Interlibrary Loan, and introduce ways to keep track of the research you find. Get the most out of your research time!
Introduction to ArcGIS I Friday, 02/28/2014 – 10:00am – 12:00pm
This workshop will familiarize you with some of the basic concepts and features of ArcGIS and some fundamentals of GIS mapping and analysis. You will work with map layers and attribute data tables for U.S. states, counties and cities.
You will learn where and how to get the necessary data. You will also learn how to build a map from existing GIS data.
Adobe Photoshop CS6 Tuesday, 03/04/2014 – 2:00pm – 4:00pm
A hands-on introduction to image manipulation using the Adobe Photoshop CS6 software. Learn about image file formats, color correction, how to touch up photos and ready images for print or web publishing. Practice with basic Photoshop tools used for selecting and altering forms, adjusting brightness, contrast and color saturation, and converting and resizing images. No previous experience required.
Citation & PDF Management: Insider’s Edition Wednesday, 03/05/2014 – 3:00pm – 4:30pm
This workshop begins with a quick overview of two citation/pdf managers that are best for humanities and social sciences research–Zotero and RefWorks. It’s then class choice; attendees decide which one(s) they want to learn to use.

Learn about your destination, and learn how to keep connected with Cornell librarians and library materials. Research tips and tools will help you make the most of your time while you’re abroad. Bringing your own laptop is encouraged.

You will learn to create, import and display coordinates, import and join data spreadsheets and other advanced features of the software, e.g. tabular editing with the field calculator, geocoding and georeferencing, and conversion of KML format files to ArcGIS
