Finger Lakes Native Plant Society Newsletter Covers Hemlocks

In the most recent issue of the Finger Lakes Native Plant Society newsletter, NYSHI’s own Caroline Marschner contributed a piece about eastern hemlocks. In addition to being beautiful trees in our forests, hemlocks provide a wide range of ecosystem services like supporting specific habitats and wildlife communities, and helping keep fresh water cool and clean. Hemlocks are part of the fabric of our landscape and, as the third most common tree in New York, we’d definitely notice if they weren’t around.
