“Remember: This is for all milk that was dumped but was also reported by handlers/coops on their report to the Market Administrator. Also, this does not include distressed milk, i.e., milk that was sold by a cooperative at a deep discount.
The 22 million pounds recorded in March makes it:
- 1. a reversal of the back to normal for February (although Jan was a wee bit up relative to the normal baseline)
- 2. the highest March recorded (at least since 2014)
- 3. the 12th highest month since 2014
It is also the case that this milk was recorded as having 2.76% milkfat, which means that some of it must have found its way to a plant so that cream could be harvested before dumping. Since 2014, a lot of cream was harvested, with dump milk routinely averaging well below 2% fat.”
