Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Every year during March, Neurodiversity @ Cornell hosts an annual Neurodiversity Celebration Week, with dozens of themed events taking place in the span of one week across the Cornell campus!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week aims to increase understanding and acceptance of the neurodivergent community, challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, and foster a more inclusive and equitable community that empowers all individuals.

Past events that have been featured include the following:

Movie Night:
Exactly what it sounds like! Our movie night, open to anyone in the general community, is a relaxed, sensory-friendly experience where attendees watch a movie with refreshments, fidgets, and a nearby sensory room available! For our most recent iteration of the event in 2025, for instance, the movie of choice was The Wild Robot!

Passionate Pursuits Night:
Have a special interest (you know, something we could easily spend hourssss learning or doing on end) you’d like to share? Want to hear about what cool niche interests your peers have? Our Hyperfocus & Special Interests Night is just the event for you! We always find it so cool to hear about what our community members are up to, and many others do too – this tends to be one of our most popular events! Open to all neurodivergent Cornell faculty, staff and students!

Silent Disco Night:
Your classic dance party, except everyone’s dancing to their own tune – literally! At our Silent Disco Night, attendees are given headphones, which they can use to play their own music while mingling with fellow friends and students. Perfect for anyone who’s looking for a more laid-back vibe!

Participatory Research Panel:
In the neurodiversity community, we are big on participatory research – namely, scientific investigations about people and demographics that actively include people from those groups in the planning, consultation, and experiment design processes. To honor this, our Participatory Research Panel invites researchers from other universities who are conducting research alongside neurodivergent researchers, as well as Cornell neurodivergent students involved in research to support ND people, and gives them a chance to share their work with the Cornell community. Interested researchers are always welcome to participate!

Every Neurodiversity Celebration Week we’ve hosted would not be possible without the many volunteers, contributors, and collaborating organizations who help us make these events and more possible! We’re also always looking for new ideas for events – if you’d like to propose or plan a new event, feel free to let us know!
