On July 10, 2014 at the National University of Singapore, Ishani Mukherjee received the World Future Foundation PhD Prize, a $10,000 award in Environmental & Sustainable Research. Ishani did her B.S. (2004) in the Department of Natural Resources and was a M.S. (2006) student with Dr. James Lassoie. Jim Lassoie is the recipient of the Innovative Teaching in International Agriculture and Rural Development Grant by International Programs, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This $3000 award will be used to fund the logistical and curriculum development of a three week service trip to Ecuador. This trip is offered as a part of IARD/LATA 4011/6011 “Experience Latin America – Ecuador Edition I/II”, a two-course sequence, fall and spring semesters, 3 credits each. Congratulations are in order for both Patrick J. Sullivan and Daniel Joseph Decker!
Dr. Sullivan was recently awarded the 2013 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Research and Extension Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Science and Public Policy, which honors an individual who is able to implement scientific research into the fields of public policy and or management. Dr. Decker was honored with the 2013 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Research and Extension Award for Outstanding Service to the CALS Community, which recognizes an individual who has exhibited leadership in a specific role such as a chair or leader of a task force or program.
Both will be presented with their awards at a reception that will be held on Monday, November 4, from 4-6 PM in Biotech G10.
The Council of the Society of American Foresters have chosen Donald Schaufler to receive the 2013 Presidential Field Forester Award to be presented at the SAF National Convention in Charleston, South Carolina on October 25. This award recognizes Don for his innovative methods and record of excellence in the practice of forestry management. Please join us in congratulating Don for this national recognition!
The Atkinson Center just announced the 2013 Academic Venture Fund selections. Twenty researchers from the college were awarded funding in this year’s competition. 9 of 33 proposals were accepted for a total of approximately $860,000 in funding.
