Sep 2023 – Dec 2023
HAC Introduction
HAC is a USA non-profit charitable organization and a Ugandan nongovernmental organization founded in November 2014. HAC helps remote communities bring government doctors, nurses, and medicines to their villages on a monthly basis via the Medicycles program. Every year, HAC hosts an end-of-year funding campaign in which they garner money from two main types of stakeholders: individuals with personal connections to HAC members and philanthropic organizations. Till 2023, HAC has reached 97 villages, 2001 Outreach Clinics and 79956 patient services distributed. HAC aims to help one million people gain access to healthcare by the year 2030.

Project Description
Health Access Connect is an NGO that aims at reaching donors through its fundraising campaign in order to raise money to continue providing health services to rural Ugandan communities. The human-centred design project mainly focuses on helping HAC to garner money from donors. The team cooperate with clients from HAC and create media such as visual flyers and videos, during which the team will learn user experience skills and concept.
Hearing from Clients
We have several meetings with our clients. In the beginning, we try to learn more about our clients such as what they did and what they achieved. Their achievements include being active in over 100 villages, family planning and increasing access to these services, and a motorcycle program to deliver medical resources.
We then discuss what they want from us. Basically, they want us to help with designing testimonials/visual flyers for social media posts, creating videos for donors and constructing the campaign calendar for the end-of-year campaign.
Design Process
Based on the discussion with our client, we first came up with scenarios that describe donor characters and stories, and journey maps that visualise user flow. Basically, our donors will see posts on social media pages or receive emails about HAC achievements, and then they will be directed to the website and finally decide to donate or not.
Below are examples of scenarios and journey maps.
Final Deliverables
Fundraising Calendar
HAC challenged us to create a master fundraising calendar which lays out parallel strategies for publishing content over LinkedIn and sending out emails over their mailing list. The calendar acts as the base structure of our campaign. It has a plan that includes the rest of the prototypes that HAC has requested or that we have suggested: LinkedIn carousels, mailing content, donor profiling, donor gifts, and tabling.
Social Media Graphics
Social media graphics include a carousel graphic explaining HAC’s mission statement, a detailing the story of its founding an explanation of the process of motorcycle taxiing and a compilation of testimonials, HAC’s goal of giving one million people access to health care, the services and programs HAC offers, and statistical graphics of HAC’s impact thus far. Below are some examples of social media graphics.
Donation Analysis
Our team suggested that HAC organize their data on donors by creating a spreadsheet with the names of large-scale and recurring donors, how they became connected to HAC when they donated, how much they donated, and their contact information. Our team assist in drafting personalized communications to each of these donors which will express a sentiment of gratitude in combination with a narrative explaining how their funds helped HAC.
Emails
All the emails are crafted with the conceptual purposes of thanking those who have been loyal donors to HAC, updating those who are interested in HAC’s mission, and most importantly, garnering donations from those already familiar with HAC. Below is one example of the email.
