Creation of Queer Inclusive Housing at Cornell: Gallery of Materials from the University Archives

The purpose of this gallery is to share with you the kinds of materials the authors explore as they developed their interview questions and sought to understand the history of Loving House. We offer you the opportunity to take a gander at the materials as they did, rather than inviting a deeper investigation.

Working in the archives often means sifting through many pages and trying to make sense of them, making a lot of small discoveries, which raise more and more questions. The authors of this story found flyers from past events, materials that are discussed in some of the videos, and other documents that indicate how different communities and individuals grappled with the visibility and presences of LGBT+ people on campus in the 90s. Some of the documents show the efforts of student activists to advocate for more support for LGBT+ students, which you can hear more about in the interviews on the main story page.
