What This Is
The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is associated with three graduate fields: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. This site is intended as a repository of information about the policies and procedures of these fields, along with other potentially useful things for graduate students and faculty.
Where to Find Information
- The Graduate Fields are organizational elements of Cornell’s Graduate School. Detailed information about the Graduate School is available at: https://gradschool.cornell.edu/about/
- Each of the fields has formal Field Rules which define how they operate

Role: Faculty in charge of affairs of PhD students associated with Sibley School. Includes students in ME, AE, and TAM fields, and students in other fields that are supervised by Sibley School faculty. Controls resources related to students and, by courtesy from DGSs of ME, AE, TAM, controls admission to these three fields. As DGS, controls academic aspects of ME student progress toward degree. Signature required for basically every step of the process–committee, Q exam, A exam, B exam. Runs Q exam for ME students. By courtesy of AE DGS, also runs Q exam for AE students.

- Role: In charge of everything. Appoints Associate Director for Graduate Affairs. Less likely to be a direct contact for students, but certainly the person to go to if you have concerns about the Associate Director or your DGS.
Associate Director for Undergraduate Affairs, Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering:

- Role: Runs the undergraduate program. Works with Associate Director of Graduate Affairs and DGSs regarding teaching assistantships.
