(This is a copy of this week’s specialty crop grower email… shoot Maryellen an email if you want to get on the mailing list or have access to any of the shared articles: ms3573@cornell.edu!)
Hi folks,
I hope September finds you and your farms doing well! I have three interesting articles to share this month, but before we get there, I wanted to let you know that as the outdoor season starts to wind down, we have growing numbers of workshops starting to come together. You can keep up to date with these via our event page (https://ccemadison.org/events) or by signing up for our monthly “CUD” e-newsletter.
The next is tomorrow night’s twilight walk graciously hosted by Common Thread CSA. We also have a few solid Zoom sessions coming together, including one with a forensic meteorologist this month and one digging into the legalities of farm succession in November. In December and later in 2024, we’ll have sessions with DEC credits available as well.
Our annual meeting is coming up on Friday, October 13th at the Colgate Inn in Hamilton. We are meeting jointly with Madison County Farm Bureau, and you can register here: https://ccemadison.org/events/2023/10/13/cce-annual-meeting-2023. It’s $15 and includes dinner, and I hope to see you there!
This week’s articles are below (you can email ms3573@cornell.edu for them!) and include:
- Managing Brassica Alternaria with OMRI-listed Fungicides by Ethan Grundberg, CCE Eastern NY Commercial Horticulture Program
- Healthy High Tunnel Soils-Now is the Time for Cover Crops by Judson Reid, CCE Cornell Vegetable Program and Harvest NY
- Managing Wireworms in Vegetable Crops Using Biocontrol Nematodes by Teresa Rusinek, CCE Eastern New York Horticulture Program
Happy reading, and farming, and I hope the rest of your September goes well, Maryellen
