What Are the Different Types of Cannabis Products?

As cannabis becomes more mainstream and less regulated around the world, there are a variety of different products entering the market. If you are new to cannabis, you may be wondering how these products differ from one another. With such a wide array of choices, it can be hard to know which one to choose. In this post, we will look at some of the most popular types of cannabis products available and discuss what makes them unique.

Edibles

One of the most popular forms of cannabis today is edibles. Edibles are food products that contain cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredients in cannabis. Many different types of tasty food products fall under the edible umbrella including brownies, cakes, cookies, candies, and drinks.

Due to the low concentration of THC in edible products, many people use them as a way to experience the effects of cannabis without getting intoxicated. However, there are also some edibles such as delta 9 gummies that come with as much as 50mg of THC per piece.

Edibles are great products because you can enjoy them throughout the day wherever you are without having to worry about finding a place to smoke. A problem with edibles though is that it can take a while for the effects to occur and serving sizes can sometimes be confusing.

Flower

The classic form of cannabis is flower. Flower refers to the dried buds harvested and cured from the cannabis plant. Most cannabis stores have several strains of flower available for purchase either in raw or pre-rolled form.

Each strain of cannabis has genetic properties that influence its unique taste, aroma, and potency. Genetics also determines the type of high that you will experience from using that particular strain. For instance, a strain that has a high amount of CBD may make you feel mellow and relaxed while one that has more THC is likely to make you feel energized and euphoric.

Once you have chosen the cannabis flower that suits your needs, you can use it in several ways. The most traditional way is to simply smoke the flower—this allows the cannabinoids to enter your bloodstream quickly and you will experience the effects almost immediately. However, the drawback of smoking is that it is difficult to control how much you consume as there is no standard dosing structure.

Tinctures

Cannabis tinctures are made by steeping cannabis flower in food-grade alcohol or oil for several days so that all the active compounds and terpenes are imparted into the base liquid. Tinctures are usually consumed orally and absorbed through the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. This allows for faster onset of effects compared to edibles. If the liquid is swallowed instead of swirled around the mouth, then it enters the digestive system where it is absorbed in the same way as an edible.

Since tinctures are not technically a food item, they can legally contain a much higher THC content than edibles. Many medical patients often use cannabis tinctures to treat a variety of conditions including pain, insomnia, and depression. Because tinctures come with droppers, people can control their dose more precisely than with other forms of consumption. The con of tinctures is that some people may find the taste and mouthfeel of the tincture unpleasant.

Topicals

Topicals refer to cannabis-infused products that can be applied directly to certain parts of the body. These can come in the form of lotions, balms, salves, sprays, and oils that are applied to the skin. Transdermal patches also fall under the category of topicals. Topicals are a great way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis without getting intoxicated. And because they typically only contain very low amounts of THC, they can be sold in traditional retailers instead of specialized cannabis shops.

This form of cannabis is fantastic for treating localized pain, soreness, or inflammation. When used in lotions or creams, they can also soothe dry skin and other skin conditions. There are also cannabis-infused bath salts that are designed for soaking sore muscles. Some people even use topicals to enhance their sex lives! Cannabis-infused lubes and condoms have become popular in recent years.

Concentrates

Finally, there are concentrates. These are arguably the most potent form of cannabis on the market. As per their name, they contain extremely high concentrations of cannabinoids and terpenes condensed into a sticky paste. The best way to use concentrates is to dab. This involves heating a small amount of concentrate with what is known as a dab rig and then inhaling the concentrate vapors. Some people also use concentrates in their vaporizers or mix concentrates with flower when smoking.

The effects of inhaling concentrate vapors can be intense and immediate. Users need to use only a small amount to have a potent experience. Unfortunately, this also means that novice consumers can easily ingest too much. Therefore, it is best that beginners start with other products and work their way up to concentrates as they gain more experience.

As more and more states legalize cannabis for medical and recreational purposes, consumers are becoming more adventurous when it comes to trying out different types of cannabis products. From cookies to condoms, there is a wide variety of ways to experience the benefits of cannabis. Just remember to enjoy responsibly and always approach your cannabis use with caution.
