Regardless of whatever drove the election to the resulting outcome, information cascades continue to affect the aftermath of the election. The beliefs of certain people hold more weight than others; for example, people who respect Trump may follow in his footsteps in speaking in racist and sexist terms. Yet, sometimes it takes large quantities of people—rather than just one powerful person—to spread a certain or sentiment.
In this article, Lady Torres speaks as one of many people who, under Trump’s administration, fear they will be discriminated against based on the “color of [their] skin.”
Contrastingly, protests against Trump have been successful; phrases such as “not my president” have spread because hundreds of thousands of people are protesting with it. It was able to become so popular because—though it likely started with one or a few people—the number of people using it surpassed many people’s thresholds to join in the movement.
