Alexander Wang Knows How to Celebrate an Anniversary!
Alexander Wang is a very young designer who took the world by storm a decade ago when he first hit the fashion scene. This year marks the 10 year anniversary of his self-titled ‘Alexander Wang’ label, and he has partnered with DoSomething.org in order to re-release 10 of his previous designs for charity. Half of the proceeds will go to DoSomething.org in order to fund various campaigns started by regular people around the world. Some of the campaigns involve environmental renewal while others vary from things such as poverty or violence. The collection consists of t-shirts and hoodies that promote DoSomething.org on their front and back.
The part of this story that correlates with the course itself, is that Alexander Wang has also enlisted the help of over 35 celebrities to join him on his viral social media campaign which will focus on connecting celebrities with young people under one goal of making the world a better place. The incredibly large network joins people of all classes and backgrounds with a singular purpose created by this charitable campaign. DoSomething.org is an organization that links over 4 million people worldwide in order to fund different charitable endeavors planned out by people with a plan to fix a problem in the world. Their slogan is in fact, “DoSomething.org makes the world suck less” and they vow to create social change through impact in communities and influence on a larger scale. The ambitious project by Alexander Wang has managed to connect high profile people like Kanye West and The Weeknd, to a charity base through social media. A video of the campaign was also released online in order to preview the campaign before it began, and it involves even more celebrities such as Cara Delevigne, Rod Stewart, and Kate Moss advertising DoSomething.org. The campaign was such a success in connecting people on social media, that all of the shirts and hoodies available are sold out already!
