Nextdoor: Facebook for mom and dad

https://nextdoor.com/

Tired of your parents commenting on your Facebook wall and afraid they might see that picture you never knew was taken? Introduce them to the new homeowner’s version of Facebook called Nextdoor.  This innovative idea was brought together by the minds of various community website experienced professionals.  The site is designed how Facebook started with individual private online communities where the communities are neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are created by users and then verified by the site as being a valid location that is not already registered to the site.  One must have a legitimate address to join the “neighborhood” and then let the fun begin.  Nextdoor offers neighbors the chance to meet each other for the first time, plan events, advertise events, and post on the common wall anything that wants to be said.  Be careful about gossiping, because everyone in the neighborhood can see the juicy news if they sign up.

Nextdoor has limitless possibilities.  It can act as a referral board for local companies.  One can recommend a local plumber who did a good job with a new bathroom and then neighbors can search for a plumber through Nextdoor and the recommendations will show up from neighbors.  This new website is certain to grow fast and who knows how it will transform in the coming months. Will the neighborhoods be used to gossip, settle feuds, or to help each other out? Knowing the tendencies of humans there is a strong possibility this leads to a negative outcome in many neighborhoods. However, have faith that Nextdoor will find a way to solve spam and bickering issues and have some form of reporting users to kick people out of the neighborhood. With what seems like a well-designed networking site, Nextdoor is sure to be a big thing in the near future, hopefully to get our mothers off of Facebook.
