Week 4: June 26th to June 30th
Welcome back to my fourth week of working as an intern at the CUCE-NYC CHAT Initiative! Once again, this week was mostly filled with preparations to teach teen leaders in the following weeks! On Monday, Eda and I prepared our 2023 internal (for us) and external (sent out) teen training agendas, which we will be practicing from this week. Additionally, we organized folders with the handouts and materials that will be needed for the teens to perform teachbacks and for the youths to learn from. Then, on Tuesday, we printed and laminated classroom decorations for teen training week to establish a welcoming and health-promoting environment, packed office supplies, as well as edited and sent out our recorded zoom session videos to the group leaders who might have missed the meetings last week. On Wednesday, we organized the lesson bag for PAL Breukelen Cornerstone, the site where I will be working at. Additionally, we revamped our recipe for lesson 4’s Veggie Pita Pockets. Instead of buying bottled salad dressings that were often processed and high in fats, we created our own salad dressing using ingredients not limited to tahini, water, lemon juice, olive oil, and various seasonings—-and, it turned out amazing! Nevertheless, we worked remotely on Thursday and Friday, when we brainstormed activities to play with the teens and reviewed the facilitation skills to mentor and schedule to follow during teen training week.
